Helpful comments on Arctic climate crisis

The earth has enough for every man's need, but not for every mans greed." - Gandhi

Comments on sea level rising

Sea level rise might take a while, but we already feel the effect of changing weather patterns resulting in forest fires etc. The domino effect is in full motion.  https://arctic-climate-crisis.blogspot.com

The sea level is also rising by the fact that water expands the hotter it becomes. When the ocean's waters heat up this phenomenon adds to the overall height of the increase.

Comments about politicians

Never confuse politicians with leaders.

If doing nothing could lead us to a solution, the US senate would be the perfect organization to lead mankind there.

Politics is why we are where we're at. Same with the pandemic. Keeping the corporate profit machine going is all that matters to politics. Nice talk won't get us nowhere, it never did. It's called PR, aka marketing.
See "the Century of the self", an old but excellent BBC documentary.

Comments on institutions

A UN Security Council on Global Climate Change sounds like a very good idea. Maybe the UN will talk about it in a few years, form a group in a year after that, hire scientists for the next year, study for a few more, announce findings, advise governments, argue with the IPCC over percentages, get rejected by authoritarian governments, etc, etc. If only climate change would hold off while this is all worked out.

The irony of the EU - the champions of environmental campaigns and the direct beneficiaries of environmental issues.

Flower and fauna comments

All life forms require insects, worms and bees to source soils, birds and flowers to perpetuate the food cycle of growth. Many insects have disappeared. The birds are vastly thinned. If anyone stops to think about it, the signs are alarming.

"When the forests are no more and the rivers, lakes and ocean are polluted, that's the time we will realize we cannot drink oil and eat money."

“Only when the last tree has been cut, the last fish caught and the last stream poisoned, will man realize that he cannot eat money.”

Encouraging comments

Please share this link with anyone you know who loves living on this planet! Happy Earth Day to all.

Fantastic video and it shows what many people have done to our mother earth. Please keep showing and making these documentaries. They are the real story we need to see and to educate and reform people.

This documentary is a must-watch for anyone with an interest in food security and the environment.

I played this for the students today, and they liked it! They learned a lot. Thank you for this amazing video!

I am impressed. This was a true documentary. It didn’t try to tell you what to think. Instead it informed you and helped you understand the situation.

Absolutely fantastic and so inspiring to know that solutions really are being worked on to these seemingly impossible problems!

Regular comments on humanity

I’m actually concerned tonight (having just spoke with my closest family) that people will not notice the peril until it’s too late.

We're not going to get through to enough of the doubters and deceivers to save enough for future generations of humans and nonhumans.

Humanity has proven itself to be the equivalent of the biblical "horde of locusts" devouring everything in its path and eventually - itself! I am 72 years old and I feel so priveleged to have been born before  - "what is about to become".

I'm 63yrs old so I suspect I'll be dead before the worst effects are experienced, but the human race is pathetic. Faced with total disaster we're more concerned with losing " money" than our descendants.

Just like when New Yorkers once used their Hudson River to support their local fishing industry. That is until the manufacturing industry was allowed to lobby the local politicians to allow pollution run-off until the point that fishing has been outlawed. Eventually we will outlaw human life on the planet.

Humans have behaved so arrogantly antagonistic to the rest of the entire biome, we deserve everything that we are gonna get. The self-serving belief in "Human Exceptionalism" is the down-fall of the human race. Hopefully there will be life forms that will eventually survive and proclaim in a loud voice that Man was NOT "the measure of all things".

The only thing more depressing than watching this video is watching this video 28 years later with the knowledge we have continued to put big business profit ahead of people and planet even though we knew better. Like all plague's the human race has peaked now it has used up all the resources and our inevitable decline is next.

Not sure if this is true, needs a fact check.

According to NASA greenland is losing 50 cubic miles of ice mass per year out of 640,000 total  cubic miles . or about .0008 % ; 8 one hundred thousandths  of its ice mass per year

Strange world comments

The fact that so few have taken time to inform themselves, by watching this video speaks volumes!
All the projections of recent years have proven to be massive underestimates.

Funny comments

"...if we could do that..." Translated means we can't and we won't.

The expression "Grasping at straws." comes to mind....

Never have such alarming news been delivered so calmly.

Maybe, if, hopefully. What other words are there to inspire confidence in our response to all this?

"He has a solution: return the arctic to how it was many thousands of years ago. Bring back the millions of animals..." Yeah. I am sure it can be done.

They say we fear most what we don't understand. However, the more I learn about how we're shitting in our own pool the more scary it is.

"When we're gone, the planet's gonna shake us off like a dog with a bad case of fleas, ladies and gentlemen." George Carlin

Comments on fossil fuel

Fossil fuel burning is not slowing; it’s increasing. Opec plus is the largest most evil cartel ever. The human race is incapable of prolonging it’s “last best chance.” The near future prospects are simply terrible.

Fossil fuel executive overheard: ""Methane? Yikes! Let's blame cows. No dent in our profits.""

Greenhouse gases emissions are increasing, demand for oil and coal is increasing (check the data and forecasts). There is no true mind shift. Nobody is seriously talking about making any sacrifices or modifying our lifestyles. The priority remains increasing corporate profits and returns, economic growth, financial stability, and ever-more consumption worldwide. We have a deep conceptual and philosophical problem. Our values are wrong. Our education is wrong. Our expectations are wrong. Our lifestyle is unsustainable. But we don't have the guts to look truth in the eye, or the courage to educate ourselves or renounce to anything. So reality, that is, the laws of nature, will be foisted onto us.

Comments on solutions

Capture, pressurize, burn - energy needed to run compressors are onsite. Feed cows seaweed. Divert organic materials from landfills. Nuclear powered container ships.
